Electrical Engineers are concerned with every step in the process of generation, transmission, distribution and utilisation of electric energy. The Electrical Engg. Industry is probably the largest and most complex indusry in the world. the Electrical Engineer encounters challenging problems in desiging future power systems to deliver increasing amounts of elctrical energy in a safe, clean and econmical manner.

Guru Kashi university , Talwandi Sabo strongly believes in ensuring quality at all levels. Innovative teaching-learning processes are being adopted at the university for the holistic development of the students. Emphasis is being laid on imparting best possible soft skills and communication skills so that our students can compete and be successful at the global level.

We are trying our best to develop the Electrical Engineering Dept. as a “Centre of Excellence “, where training in the thrust areas of Electrical Engineer, like Renewable Sources of Energy , Advanced and Reliable techniques for Control and Operation of Power Systems and Electrical Machines will be provided.

2 B.Tech. (Lateral Entry) – EE 3 years

3 year diploma in engineering or B.Sc (Non-Medical).Diploma in Petro Chemical & Petro Refinery Engineering also eligible.

3 M.Tech. – EE (Full Time) 2 Years B.Tech or equivalent degree in Electrical Engg. or AMIE
4 M.Tech.- EE(Part Time) 3 Years Same as for M.Tech. Full Time
5 Diploma - EE 3 years

Matric Pass

6 Diploma - EE(Lateral Entry) 2 years

ITI/10+2 Vocational/ 10+2 Non -medical

7 Ph.D. - EE 3 years Minimum

Master’s Degree in relevant discipline.

The department has well equipped labs to provide state of the art training to the students. Students are encouraged to perform the experiments in such a way that they understand the basic concepts easily. They are also encouraged to devolop practical, industry oriented live projects. Following are the major labs:

In this lab, students learn the basic and fundamental concepts of Electrical Engg. The experiments are conducted in such a way that a strong foundation is laid for the students at the initial stages of the course. The main equipment in this lab is used for the analysis of D.C. and A.C. circuits , single phase and three phase power measurement , verification of basic laws of Electrical Engg , basic concepts of transformers , A.C. and D.C. machines and use of Electrical measuring instruments.

In this lab, students get training in the operational aspects of various D.C. and A.C. machines. The main equipment in this lab consists of single phase and three phase transformers , D.C. shunt , series and compound machines , single phase and three phase inductor motors, single phase and three phase variable A.C. supply , A.C. to D.C. solid state rectifier.

In this lab students get training in the operational aspects of various Electrical Measuring Instruments and bridges for the measurement of resistance, inductance and capacitance. The main equipment in this lab consists CRO, Function Generator,Potentiometer, Galvanometer, Wattmeter, Ammeter, Voltmeter.

In this lab , students get knowledge about various types of control systems. They also learn the use of MATLAB Software to study the behaviour of control systems. e.g plotting of Root locus diagrams, Bode diagrams, Nyquist plot etc.

In this lab, students get training to analyze, design and evaluate digital logic circuits of medium complexity. This lab gives a chance to review the concepts about the semiconductor memories.

In this lab students learn the basic principle of operation of 8 Bit and 16 Bit Microprocessors. They also learn the interfacing techniques and the use of Microcontrollers for the control of stepper motors etc.

In this lab students get knowledge about most useful semiconductor devices (Diode,Transistor) applications, analysis and design of analog electronic circuits e.g Amplifiers, Oscillators. The main equipments in this lab are CRO's, Function Generators.

In this lab students get to know about various electronics devices used in industries. The main equipments in this lab are basically Power Electronic devices e.g Thyristors, UJT, Choppers, Converters with Single Phase and Three Phase Supply.

In this lab students learn about the basic principles and devices used for protection of electrical equipments against faults in transmission and distribution lines in Power Systems e.g circuit breakers, fuses, relays.

In this lab, students learn the basic principle of operation of programmable logic controllers and ladder diagrams for the control of different devices/systems.
